Title: Deer Lake - Burnaby

I'm taking my Scouts out in the morning to try fishing and Canoeing.  They'll be drowning worms, but I thought I'd try flogging the water with feathers.

Any suggestion for line/fly?  When trolling from a canoe vs. casting from shore?

Ya pumkinhead for sure or any microleech pattern in black purple olive or even red.

Sparkle buggers or small olive and black leeches, sparkly scuds will work too.  Stocked trout aren't to smart, keep it movin and you'll get into them.  Have a fun day!

Dragged a Black Doc, a red doc, a black leech and one other fly that looked fishy to me.  I caught lilypads. 

Of course when you have an 11yr old helping to drive the canoe, speed, presentation and direction can get a bit sketchy ;)

I saw a guy in a float tube.. he hit ONE while dragging a leech around on sinking line...  pretty slow.

It was a nice moring to be out though, that's for sure!

This lake needs to be stocker more often. If a good cleaning is needed I'm sure there would be volunteers (especially if includes cleaning out some carp)

Cleaning out the carp is impossible without killing all the other fish in the lake. Why take them out anyway? The carp & the trout share two almost entirely different food sources.

Carp stir up the bottom doing stuff to the habitat and stuff I'm not an expert. Anyway that's why it's an invasive species. I heard they used to filter a pond in surrey a while back and since a lot of the trout die or go into the streams in the summer there is a window of opportunity there...
Also I meant catching the fish not poisoning or anything
