A few days ago, I was quite delighted to see that the water had gradually cleared up while scouting around Steveston. Yesterday, to my disappointment, I found that the water visibility had degraded significantly. It is now down to 6 inches again. The lures and flies will just have to wait a bit longer, but there's nothing wrong with some bait fishing in the meantime.

Vince and I spent the afternoon chucking some dough balls at North Arm during the incoming tide. We caught a mix bag of peamouth chub and northern pikeminnow as usual, including one pikeminnow that was bigger than average. We kept a dozen or so as Vince and his family enjoy eating these. A few salmon leaped in front of us as the tide peaked. We are just around two weeks away from the first wave of this year's pink salmon run. Hopefully the water will clear up enough so some spincasting is possible.

why do some of those fish in the bucket look alive are you not supposed to kill your catch once you retain it ?? I know you must do this in lakes.

These ones were as alive as the ones in the "live fish" tanks at T&T market.

He's pointing out the ones on the bottom of the bucket. Dead fish sink when their swim bladder pops.

I sure do. Not eating them though, not when there are red chinook steaks in the freezer.

My friend Vince asked me why I bothered fishing for them after catching a 20lb red chinook a couple of weeks ago. I don't really have an answer except that I find all types of fishing fun. Each has its own appeal. This type of fishing brings back plenty of childhood memory as it is similar to what I did in other countries.

I am with you Rodney, I enjoy fishing. It does not matter what I am fishing for, as long as I am fishing. I think people take what we have here in the lower mainland for granted.
