Well decided to meet up with DMW, Searun and his son for some coho fishing on the Vedder. We arrived at our run with no one around which was sure nice on a weekend. Well second cast and fish on. Landed a nice 8.5lbs hatchery coho. Also hit a chum and a buck spring and lost another. Here is the picture of the coho. All fish where caught on roe except for the chum which was on a blade.

-
It was sure was a great day to be out but I think searun was going a little loopy. I think he spent a week to long hunting in the bush ;D
-
good job on the coho :) it's a very encouraging report, i think i am heading out soon too
-
Yes Nice coho well done ,to bad though you didnt get a chance to enjoy the fight of this fish, first time i have ever seen anyone on this river fishing with a center pin on a sturgeon rod. ::) ;)

...what coho look like!!
:D :D
Jeez after 2 straight days of fishing, not a sniff of coho.
I hauled in so many chum I can't count that high.
Broke 3 stealth floats (not using these again), lost another 3 (one of them was a tug by a killer whale or something and ripped everything off), emptied my leader box of about 12 - 15 leaders, broke the ceramic insert on my rod tip by scraping the ground while unhooking a chum. I ran out of roe, ran out of lead, ran out of floats, ran out of leaders, crazy!! ;D ;D
First day I was moving around changing spots, I saw one guy catch a coho out of a gazillion people.
Second day I stayed in one spot for the most part.
Hope others have had better luck!

I did not fish today being the long weekend but visited the river just at sunset to cleanup some garbage and litter on the bar below the Vedder Crossing Bridge, got one bag full and a couple of dollars,of tins and bottles. Also a rolled up newspaper with 2 very long leaders on it with barbed hooks. ???
Everyone was having a good time it appeared but most people I saw had way too long of leaders as well as long float lines or bouncing the bottom with no floats, saw two dark buck chums not make Thanksgiving. Saw people earlier in the day throwing fly gear and fishing in water that almost one could call rapids. A fish would get whiplash trying to latch onto the fly. :( :o
These methods of fishing we now have, have reached the point of no return, as much as I hate to say it as there is just too many of them.
Will have to wait for steelhead season where things improve some. :-\
On a positive note, nice fish in the pix above.

-
well its the effort that count you keep trying and you will succeed

Yeah, or a Sockeye I guess..... :-[ Sockeye didn't even enter my head considering it is October and there are plenty of Chum in the river. I hadn't seen that thread....To me that just looked like a pic of someones nice chrome chum that got it's eye ripped out whilst the person was fishing. :-\
-
Nope it was a sock.... just a reminder to CHECK your catch before you kill it. I have seen SEVEN of these of the beach, missing eyes this year (between mid september, and even one today). This was more just a gentle reminder that they look a lot like coho, a lot of people see that back fin missing and bonk it the moment they get it on the beach.
Rodney you ruined the test ;D
-
thankfully i haven't seen any so far, and i haven't encountered any either.

Holly crap!!! Coho Cody that is a huge fish!!!. Got to be loads of fun playing it on the pin!!! Does it fight like a regular coho or more like spring??
Btw it's not 20.1 lb, it's a mere 9.12kg fish !!! ;D ;D
