Title: Old medication...throw in garbage or flush in toilet or bring back to pharmacy.
Post by: arimaBOATER on January 13, 2020, 02:36:19 PM
So your over 40 or 50 or 60 & up...more than likely you get meds from the pharmacy.
Let's just say your have pills that expire.
What do you do with them?
Throw in garbage, flush it in toilet, or do you return it back to pharmacy so they can dispose it properly.
Not sure if this only applies to pills but maybe we can return old sun screen or Vaseline or Vicks or body creams ....etc...
Assume many just flush their old pills in the toilet or throw in the garbage.
But this is a no no. Bad for environment / for marine life.

My question is ( you can make any guess ) How many tons of pills or possibly pills & the other stuff ( if people also take back expired sun lotion etc. ) in a year gets returned to pharmacies ???
Yes in one yr. tons are returned & thus not put in the landfill or waterways if flushed.
Any guess? It's in the tons per year.
Will give answer later today.
Hope at least for 3 guesses ( ;D )

That depends who ya ask!
Your answer is correct.
But possibly if you ask Miss Thunberg activist ...she I assume will give a A) & B) answer.
A) Walk to pharmacy with brown bag ( pills in bag ) she says yes. B) drive non Flintstone car ( fuel car ) to pharmacy then she may say Flush meds. Lesser of evils.
She possibly will buy 50 sailboats & park on the shores of Vancouver & Halifax. Go pollution free to Europe or Asia tours/vacation.
But the ? is how many tons of medications are returned to pharmacies per yr. ? Annually. ? 365 days?
Hint between 1 ton to 1 zillion tons.
Anyone?  8)
Guess how many tons of pills returned per yr for disposal.

Ok time is up.
Answer: drum roll........is..........
143 tons per yr pharmacies take meds back from people.
Expired or pills too strong or weak so their doctor makes adjustments.
Or med does not agree with their system so MD gives them dif. brand to see if new med. is tolerated better.
This info came from a Canadian pharmacy so assume it is just for Canada.
Think there's 4-5 pharmacies just in Steveston area.
Must be a lot of people taking pills.
I take 3 meds & should be 4 but no way..do not like statins.
Let healthy prepared food be your main meds.  :)
243 tons is a lot of pills not going to dump or flushed in toilet & making it 's way into waterways & marine environment.

I throw my leftover Viagra into a nearby bass pond.

Scatter the pills like pellets at a hatchery and the fish go crazy.

The fishing for big fish is really good for a couple of hours after scattering the pills. Then, inexplicably, the big fish seem to disappear and it's nothing but small ones. Never could figure that out...

Clarki you have good humour.
We need it in this day & age.
But honestly so much chemicals are going in our oceans...so anything that doesn't get discarded is a plus.

SH..tonne in your pants.
What did you eat to cause such a messy situation.
Your math is wrong as the answer is 143 tons.

How does a guy let Viagra expire?
Mind you I never tried it.
It's un natural. 20 yrs from now the medical experts will expose all the extra side effects.
Eyeballs sticking out of head 4inches.
Ears lobes become 2x size for starters.... ;D
Use food as your medicine. ( mind you do not eat some foooooooods ...YT vid Seeds of Death. )
