I just spent about almost a hour cleaning the inside of an old tackle box which a few of the rubber hoochie squid lures completely melted into powder due to the chemical reaction of the lures and tackle box. As a result, it looked like someone freshly sprayed painted the tackle box with white sparkly coloured powdered paint. The tackle box was labelled as worm proof, so the actual tackle box didn't get permanently disfigured or melt, but it's a huge mess to clean up! I'm not even done yet as I had to clean or throw away my lures, sinkers, hooks that were exposed to the chemical reaction from the rubber lure that turned into pure rubbery sticky dust.

It makes me never want to buy soft plastic lures because special precautions have to be taken before storing the lure into the tackle box such as storing it in the original packaging or a zip-lock bag.

it's actually quite common especially with soft plastic/rubber...depending on their composite and melting point along with how they react to other plastics.

Seems like keeping different soft plastics separate helps a little bit for me.

Gotta keep those plastics sealed and separated from each other. Heard some pretty messy stories about hoochies and flashers being all melted into one big mess...

I keep a variety of hootchies in a cd/dvd  holder case. It makes it easy to access and find different hootchies. Just turn the pages. Have not had any problem with them melting maybe just lucky.

Have run into this numerous times.
Plastic beads and soft plastics don't get along at all.

From what I understand, it's the mineral oil that is used on the moulds when the plastic is being poured that can eat away at certain plastics.

Yeah it is the mineral oil, also eats at your leader and a good amount of different plastics.

I had that happen a few times years ago and after that I wrapped all those soft baits on plastic bags or put them in jars inside the box.
