Building my gear collection from scratch
« on: September 17, 2023, 03:04:22 PM »

Hello all,

I have been using my Dad's spinning and Fly gear including lures, line, flies, bobbers, and rods. You name it!

Now it is time for me to buy my own gear from scratch.

What rods/tacklebox/other gear should I get?

Species: trout, salmon, sucker, carp, sturgeon.

Thanks,

I would recommend buying many accessories or other things from aliexpress depending on your budget. I have even bought rods and reels from there and they have held up well. For Salmon and sturgeon i would recommend something better quality. Your question is very open ended there's a million things you could buy or might not need. I would recommend one ultralight rod with 1000 series reel, one 10'6 rod and 25-40 series reel for salmon, sturgeon any 40+ line rated rod and 70 + series reel and one more rod and reel for carp any should would fine if you want something decent you can buy a baitrunner reel and carp 5 piece rod for 100$ from aliexpress.

Thank you

The 1000 series reel is made by Shimano?

you can get any brand you see on chinese marketplace even 15-20 $ do the job fine reel doesn't really matter for small trout other than how light/quality it is. 40-50$ ones will be quite a bit better build. If you are looking for good reels any size that is quality but not too crazy expensive check out shimano nasci. You can always look on fb marketplace for deals
