Fraser R eagle swims to the shore.
« on: May 10, 2017, 12:40:26 PM »

Other day seen a handful of people looking towards the airport beside the south side of the Middle Arm of the Fraser R. They continued gazing & at a closer look seen an eagle in the water !!!
A duck was swimming circles around it.
Every few minutes the eagle flapped it 's wet wings but it could not get flying. After a few tries it decided to use it's wings like oars & it rowed it's way to the shore.
It just stood still on the land to dry off.
My guess is the eagle ate an adult or baby duck(s ).

We had that happen at Roche Lake a few years ago.
Young bald eagle misjudged its dive and hit the water. It flapped its way to shore and stood drying out its wings.
We headed over for a closer look and it jumped back in the water.
Stupid bird!

I've seen eagles hunting little ducklings in a lake. Interesting that the mother takes her brood into the middle of the lake instead of seeking cover on shore.

I saw a big bald eagle flying overhead with a screeching duck in its grasp while fishing the Vedder a couple months ago. Quite a ruckus!

I wonder how difficult it is to swim for them. Here's a vid showing an eagle trying to swim after being accidentally caught and released. The guys go help it out by drying it and feeding it some sugar water before releasing it.

Interesting posts on the subject.
Today seen an adult eagle perked on the highest part of a very tall ever green tree on Francis Rd about a block east of the west dyke.
One crow was creating a disturbance. Not making the eagle welcome.
Even a seagull got in on the action making loud noises & flying around the eagle.
By the actions the crow & seagull were making it clear for the eagle to perch in another area but not here.
( have sweet dreams tonight as you sleep.....zzz ....a 400 lb eagle grabs a fisherman in Richmond & later police find only bones of the man near Gilbert & River Rd )  ;D
Seen coyote recently near West Richmond dykes.
Eagles coyotes etc...make kills so to live.
