Feds do their job.

A Campbell River fishing guide has been fined $3,500 for having more Dungeness crabs than allowed and for making a false statement to a federal Fisheries officer.

Christian Steinbach, owner and operator of Crabby’s Fishing Charters, pleaded guilty in Campbell River provincial court on March 20.

He was spotted fishing for crabs while on his vessel in Oyster Bay on Nov. 18, 2016.

Fisheries officers watched as crab traps were pulled on board and the vessel went to a nearby marina to dock.

A total of 16 live crabs were found. The limit is four.

Steinbach was fined $2,000 for making false statements to a fisheries officer, a statement said.

He was banned from crab fishing, possessing crab gear outside of his home and holding or applying for personal or commercial fishing licences, other than for tidal sport.

My question is, he was crabbing under a sport fishing license, why was that not affected?

Repeat offender, should have his boat and truck taken.

Send an e-mail to the Fisheries Minister. This appears to be a plea bargain.
