Subject: Liberal Salmon catch regs

Regulations liberalized for kings along road system drainages in Juneau area
Liberalized sport fishing regulations in freshwater drainages on the Juneau road system will provide anglers additional opportunity to harvest surplus hatchery king salmon.

The daily bag and possession limit is 4 kings of any size.

And the Division of Sport Fish says kings harvested by non residents do not count toward their annual limit.

The division says only a few kings will stray into most streams, however the its expects that over 500 will enter Fish Creek on Douglas Island.

As a result regulations for Fish Creek Pond have been changed that allows the use of bait and the use of eight hooks and lures, and multiple hooks with a gap greater than one-half inch between the point and shank are allowed.

Anglers there will also be able to snag salmon.

The only changes that apply to Fish Creek and all intertidal waters within a 200 yard radius of the creek mouth, is the increased daily limit of four kings of any size. Otherwise, normal freshwater sport fishing methods apply according to the division.

The new regulations went into effect this morning and will remain in effect through August 31st.
