Abu Garcia Morrum 6600cl...
« on: March 27, 2012, 10:26:08 PM »

Does anyone have any info on these reels? What they cost new, what they go for used and how good or bad are they... I have one sitting in my garage just collecting dust, I got it from my dad. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd check ebay out for a rough idea of what its worth, I think they were actually not bad reels from what I've heard and read in the past; I'm abit fuzzy though. Theres a small tidbit of info on the link regarding the Morrum

http://www.realsreels.com/reels/ambassadeur/default.htm

hope that helps!

Consider yourself lucky.

The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Morrum CL series are highly sought after reels, in the class of the Shimano Calcutta -  only better. They are hugely popular with the beach fishing crowd.
These Morrums were discontinued three years ago, so people who have them usually stick to them, making them very hard to come by on the used tackle market. When one pops up occasionally, it commands at least 200 dollars for a well-used but in good shape unit. A mint 6600CL in the original box will fetch $300 easily.
The Ceramic Lightning bearings make the Morrum reels very SMOOTH.
if I didn;t already spend a fortune collecting vintage (pre 1980) and classic Ambassadeurs, I wouldn't mind having one or two of these.

Your 6600 CT would make a perfect reel for the summer Fraser fishery.

Not a bad reel for a hand me down but if it was my reel I would sell it to Milo and buy a Calcutta or Luna.  Although the Morrums were some of Abus finest reels they still do not compare to the Shimano and Diawa reels mentioned.

LOL!
Lucky, just for the record, have you ever used any Morrum reel, especially the IVCB series?

Oh, and good luck finding parts for the Shimanos and Daiwas! ;)

I have owned an ambassadeur morrum 6600 Cl for about 11 years or so and this reel kicks arse. Its a top of the line bait cast reel.

In fact at one time I did own a Morrum that I fished with, as well as a few others.

Don't get me wrong they make a decent enough reel but from my experiences they just don't compare to the others mentioned.  At one time the Abus might have been considered the best bait casting reels on the market, but then again so were the Shakespheare reels.

Nowadays my Abu reels just collect dust, these ones get all the use.

A staunch Shimano fan, I see. ;)

Anyway, regardless of allegiances, the Morrum CL is one fine reel, and I think the OP should keep it and use it.

You are better off selling it on eBay. That's where ABU lovers buy their reels and pay premium prices.
FWR members are not keen on paying a lot for a levelwind.

If you'll take 100 bucks, I'll take it off your hands.

Okay. I'll keep it. Is there a place closer to Richmond that does reel upgrades and repairs?
