Aluminum boat repairs
« on: February 14, 2008, 09:19:12 AM »

Hey everyone, hoping for some opinions on this.  I just picked up a 9' Springbok pram (for free) and it needs a little TLC.  Someone tried to weld over what I expect to be a few small holes and didn't fully fix it.  There are a few holes about the diameter of a pen in the middle of the areas that were welded.  I have been looking around now for an over-the-counter remedy but have found that there is such a variety of stuff out there, it is difficult to determine which will work best, or even work at all.

Has anyone had success using the over the counter stuff?  Name?  Brand?

I found a product on-line called Dura-fix and it invovles heating the aluminum up and then rubbing these rods over the area until it starts to melt.  It's somewhat like using solder without the flux.

Thanks for help on this.
