This year, Chilliwack Fish and Game Protection Associations will not be hosting the annual Boxing Day Chilliwack River steelhead fishing derby. To make sure this 80+ year tradition continues, Fred's Custom Tackle will be picking up that role and host the derby instead. Entry fee is $20 and if you are already in the Wally Hall Jr season derby, the fish you bring to the weigh-in will be eligible to win in both derbies. Once again, the true winners are going to be the fish because all of the proceeds raised from both derbies will be donated to Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition (https://fvwc.ca) which will carry on more habitat restoration and salmon enhancement work on the Chilliwack/Vedder River system. Five have been weighed in so far now, three for the Boxing Day Derby, the other two are for the Wally Hall season derby only.

I believe the leader is the Brother of Mark Roseboom from Lone Butte fly shop who rod has fished with for Kokanee.

If I'm not mistaken, that will be the biggest fish to win the boxing day derby in a looooong time. Having said that though, I've been skeptical of the accuracy of that old clubhouse scale for a long time. (Not that it matters, the biggest fish is still the biggest fish 8))

What was final result?
-
301 entries, over $6,000 raised for Fraser Valley Watersheds Coalition.
Winning fish was 16.11lb, caught by Rob Roseboom. He takes home an Islander Steelheader reel on a Fred's Custom Tackle Pro Series Okuma built 11'3" Centre Pin Rod.
Second place goes to Kurt Latkovich who gets a Fred's Custom Tackle Pro Series Okuma built 11'3" Centre Pin Rod, and a sweet Fred's Hoody.
Petr Herman takes third place and walks away with an Ugly Stick travel combo and a 100 pack of Gamakatsu hooks.
Finally, fourth place receives a Stlhd Hoodie, and that goes to Aaron Leckie who brought in the first fish of the derby.
Two other fish were weighed in, they were not entered in the Boxing Day Derby, but were in the Wally Hall Junior Memorial Season Derby.

I’m glad your prediction was wrong. Hopefully it’s a good run this year.

That’s a cautiously optimistic result
