Title: Fish counter guys
Post by: Long_Cast on October 15, 2006, 08:58:18 PM
I'll be going to the Vedder soon and I'm just curious about the fish counter guys.  What should I expect if I meet one of them.

They will just ask you if you caught (species) anything if so is it an adipose clip, they also may ask to see it if it is clipped and what species you are targetting.

They will also ask you how long you fished and if you are finished for the day. Not sure if they will ask you what you were using. ( lure, bait wool or a fly) I think that covers it. Someone that has been surveyed on the Vedder this year may add to this.

Cool, are they from the DFO? Will they ask me for my fishing license?

Longcast, even if they did not ask you for your fishing license, you should always have your license with you when fishing.

They are employed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada. As well there is lots of officers from the enforcement branch out there so make sure you have the necessary tag if you keep a salmon and mark any adult chinook you retain on your license.

Being an avid recreational fisherman, I always carry my fishing license with me at all times. You'd think I'm would crazy to fish without a license?

THOU SHALL NOT JUDGE....

If asked, you must
allow a
Conservation Officer,
Fishery Officer,
RCMP Constable,
Park Ranger in a
Provincial Park, Park
Warden in a
National Park or an
Officer under the
Wildlife Act to
examine your
fishing licence, gear
and catch.

My post was to show who has the authority to check liciences. FishFreak said only DFO/CO have authority, which i thought was wrong so i checked it out.
