Time to get ready for the new year..
« on: February 17, 2007, 06:46:13 PM »

Went out today to warm up the fly line...went to the park and was practicing my casting..took a bit to shake the rust off but was able to get the line moving again pretty good, was getting out about 70 feet of line which is more then enough for what I plan on doing..so that was cool.. saw some bugs today out so won't be long before it's time to hit the lakes...yeehaa...

I work in a high school so I practice casting in the gym when all is gone. Getting the line wet tomorrow going cutty hunting  ;D . Mike lake is opening at the end of the month and Rolley should be open sometime in March. They have been closed due to the wind storms and the fallen tree's .

I am almost ready, just need a couple more things, and then get out there to get used to casting.  I am really looking forward to it, mainly for a bit of a change, I don't do that much fishing in the Spring, other than Sturgeon fishing, but it will be nice to have something else in the arsenal!! ;D

BTW, Jim......  Nice Bird!! ;D

Plan on hitting some cutties when I get back from the Rock. I will be fishing both Saturday and Sunday. One day for cutties and one day for steelhead.

I would love too...nothing like tossing my mid weight Rio versatip on my 9wt...I bet you I can get it out there about half way of your spey cast.. :D
It's tough going back to dry line on a 6wt after ripping those long weighted tips out there on a 10' 9wt....

Picked up a Sage 5 weight today to compliment my St. Croix.  Also got yet another Reel, a Martin VFR 5 with a 5 weight Cortland floating line!!  All I need now is the Outkast U-boat I have been looking at and I will be totally set.!!  Looking forward to getting out there and hopefully in time getting into some bows!! ;D

Thanks fly_guy I was wondering when Mike lake opens, I want to get out in my fishcat and get some exercise and casting practice from it too.
I guess it's time to start getting serious about tying up some flies for the spring, won't be long now.

Cheers

Maybe I will take a drive up there in a bit. I am only 10min away and I will report back. I am just going by what I have been told by my local MLA.

Just got back from a drive up to golden ears park and it is deffinatly closed. Unless you have a horse or a bike you are not getting in. Cars are parked on both sides of the road by the gate.
