Stave River parking
« on: April 06, 2010, 07:22:12 PM »

I just read in Rodney's fishing report that the west side of the Stave River has new no parking signs up. Can anyone clarify how much of the west side is now unavailable for parking? Should be interesting come salmon season, when the street is literally bumper to bumper with vehicles. I would like to head up there and try for some cutty's, but now am unsure if I'll even be able to park there.

Also, how would I go about getting to the toilet bowl side of the river?

To get to the "toilet bowl" side of the river...

If driving east bound on the lougheed hwy, go over the river and turn left at the next lights (Hayward St). Follow it up and you'll see the parking lot near the toilet bowl on the left hand side, just before the dam.

We drove around it a few weeks ago and it appears that parking is prohibited on the entire west side, which should make next salmon season rather interesting.

Some options:

Bring a bike (don't forget a good lock or bring it down with you)
Take a taxi  (Bring buddies to share fare)
Get dropped off
Walk
Maybe someone will offer parking for a fee or free (General Store or S/S Pub?)

Guess that means more pressure on the Vedder this salmon season.

Probably the same reason I hear banjo music every time our Mission Council does anything.

Most likely due to complaints by local residents who live by that road. If hundreds of cars congest the road by my house one hour before dawn everyday from late September to late November, then I'd be complaining too. Possible littering and loud, foul language from a pretty typical small percentage of anglers, smell from fish cleaning would have only escalated the problem. On the brighter side, the west side of the river should be much more pleasant to fish at for those who have easy access to it (boaters, local residents, those who are willing to walk). On the not so brighter side, it maybe a major problem for the east side for BC Hydro staff and COs.

I wish I could remember where I used to fish that river as a youngster. I know it was a favourite river to go to with my uncle...but I don't remember where we used to park....Salmon season is going to require some walking

Wonder if we are going to see something similar happen on the east side, as the road just before the gates also gets congested when there is no spots left on the parking lot below.
