The passing of a forum member

Some of you have met LukeYVR on the forum when we fished on the Fraser for pinks and on the Vedder for coho. He unfortunately passed away a month ago after complications in a surgery. Here's a blog entry that talks a bit more about his fishing days.

Thanks for writing this in memory of Luke, a very nice tribute to a fine fishing partner.

 I also am so glad I was able to fish with him on a couple of fishing trips on the Chilliwack a few years ago at the Twin Cedars. That along with some great fellowship at Cookies Grill on these trips will be outings long remembered.

Luke was certainly a kind and gentle soul that will be missed by those that knew and fished beside him.

A very moving tribute Rodney. I have never met Luke but have enjoyed reading his posts. Condolences to his family and friends.

Thanks for posting this very nice tribute Rod. Although I never met Luke he is as one with us, the fishing fraternity. My deepest condolences to his family and everyone else who knew him. As another poster mentioned. Way to young.

Really sorry to hear that, Rod...

Funny, I wasn't quite sure who LukeYVR was at first, but as soon as I saw the first and second photos you attached, I remembered right away.  I remembered because I could see how happy he was to be out on the water, and when I'd first seen those photos in one of your earlier reports, (besides being jealous of all the coho!), I was stoked you guys seemed to have had such a good time.

Sounds like you've got some great memories to keep.  My condolences.

Unexpected passing of a friend or love one is always hard to accept. We mortals just don't know and can't control when that fateful day will be for ourselves and for people we love & care, but at least we can try to make those moments with them as memorable as possible. That we have some control on. Sad to see a great guy passed so young, but Rodney, if he was meant to go young, you had at least enriched his life with so much memories and good times on your fishing trips, something he will treasure in his next journey in the spirit. Your touching tribute to his life is the ultimate gift of your friendship. My deep condolences to Luke's family.

Tex, that trip on October 5th 2007 was the morning when you bumped into us at Reaction Fly and Tackle. I remember that you were standing outside and waiting for them to open so you could buy roe. :) We were definitely pretty excited that morning and on a rush to the spot that I had chosen because that I had lost a couple of coho a few days before it. It was a good day for many forum members and we chuckled many times after that trip about how I lost all of the coho. If I remember correctly, it was also Lew's birthday and we had lunch at Pointa Vista. Luke ordered the pancakes and when it arrived, it was three or four times bigger than any of our portions. We sat and watched him painfully trying to finish it long after we had finished our lunch. ;)

My favorite story is actually this one. This was a couple of weeks after I showed him coho fishing on the Vedder. It was the type of outing that many of us have experienced at least once.

Sorry for your loss Rodney.... I never got the chance to meet Luke, but from the stories he sounded pretty great !! it is very sad when we lose someone we care about, especially when it happens at such a young age !! My thoughts are with you and Lukes family, may he rest in peace
