Just wondering if anyone had experience using the dropper rig or dropper loop for pier fishing?
When would you use dropper rig and when would you use a dropper loop instead?

A dropper rig has dropper loops on it, so if you tie a loop in your line and have a weight fixed to bottom, you have a dropper rig no?
Or am I miss reading your question?

sorry meant the differences between these 2 rigs, and when to use one over the other

Depends on the bottom you're fishing on. I've frequently used a dropper style rig (dropper loop replaced with 3-way swivel) on rough ground such as near rocks or around pilings. Use a slightly weaker line for your sinker so if it gets snagged, the sinker breaks off first and you don't loose your entire leader. You can also use a dropper rig on flat sandy bottom but I prefer a sliding rig for those kinds of situations due to the ease of setting up and the lesser likelihood of it tangling up on itself when casting.

Remember that you can only use one hook when fishing with the dropper loop rig (unless fishing for mackerel, herring, anchovies, and sardines).

Or when fishing the tidal Fraser :)

No worries all, only use 1 hook anyways, tend to loose a lot due to snags, especially on the Fraser :P

you fish wrong spot then , I lost 2 hooks (had to cut line off , to let wild ones go since they took it way to deep) for a month or so ....

possible, I am a newbie when it comes to fishing. Haven't even tried for salmon yet

Finally had a chance to test the dropper loop, caught a small flounder that swallowed the hook. Could not remove hook so I cut the line and let it swim away. Has anyone experienced more deep hooked fish using the dropper loop?
