Where to pick up some good roe?

Howdy fishers, I will be heading to the lowermainland for a bit of fishing in a couple weeks.  Problems is, I haven't got any roe (fly rods will be staying home this time I think).  Anyone know of a source of good borax roe with or without dye... I don't want to drive 1000 km and fish with that goo from a gas station (unless its good gooo).

Couple weeks?  That leaves plenty of time to harvest and cure your own roe.  Store stuff never compares.
I have been using insane amounts of roe and have used/test a few different local products.

#1 - Berry's Procure.  Spring roe.  It comes frozen.  I like to slowly thaw it then cut up into chunks and layer chunks with a light sprinkling of borax.  If you do not add borax it will turn to a wet soupy substance.  $10 per lb.

#2 - Army Navy new stuff.  It comes in a clear 1/2lb container.  I believe its coho roe.  It is refridgerated and usable immediately.  Very clean roe.  Its nice and rubbery but does not milk nearly as nice as the Berry's.  $9 per 1/2 lb.

#3 - Shell 34981 Lougheed Hwy.  They've got some pretty good procure coho roe.  Clear container.  Nice and rubbery.  $8 per 1/2 lb.

Just swing by the Chan household. We've got plenty of roe in the freezer.  ;D

I heard that Bruce's Market also sold lots of roe. Located in Maple Ridge just across the old Albion Ferry run.

Can someone please confirm.  I am looking for some fresh unfrozen roe.  I'll take any species right now.
I recall back in the day, they would have roe from the Albion test fishery.  Not sure if this is still the case.

Just called Bruce's. They have a wait list right now..but expect to get a whack of roe in tomorrow. Fresh Chum roe (not frozen) $8 per lb. Spring roe $4 per lb. They are taking orders, but the wait shouldn't be too long. Bruce's # is (604) 463-9817. Sounds like a good bet!

take a fly rod with you Johnny or you will regret it !! guys have been doing decently on the fly rods for coho & springs

Exactly what does the "does not milk nearly as nice" mean?

Maybe... but only if you tell me where to use it... The spots I find every year are gone by the next year, so I nead a heads up.  If you know of a few good spots, get in touch and maybe we can meet up and catch a few... jzuccolo(at)ucalgary.ca

Oh, and I can't make my own roe because salmon are so rare in alberta.   ;D

Was up in northern BC mid august and the pinks and chinook were unreal... hope its good down on the south coast!

Just picked up 3lbs of chum roe at Bruce's after taxes it works out to be $10/lbs.  Each skein was about 3/4lbs.  Some had no blood in them, others a fair bit.  I took out as much as I could while cursing the guy who didn't bleed the fish.  I called around noon and picked it up the same afternoon- it was packaged and ready to go.  They seemed to have lots.

i'd agree to say berry's has some good roe. :)

I want to ask though, when I get them from berry's, obviously frozen, how long is it good for? how do i store it? what if i get a container but want to use some of it one trip, then the rest the other, what are the proper ways to handle them?
