I wanna buy a new salmon rod. Really like the Berkley IM 8. Light and sensitive.
My dilemma is if I should go with 9'6" M 8-14 or 8'6" M 8-12.
I fish Coquitlam river from shore, Vedder mouth form a boat, Frazer in Mission from shore etc..
I know it's not a big difference in those rod, or perhaps there is.
Prefessional please give an advice the a newer guy to fishing.

Ugly sticks are good rods sorry  I don't know the rod your talking about my post  isn't helpful to you sorry but I would go with the longer rod 9'6

Ugly Sticks are almost indestructible but are far from a good rod in my books. Each to there own I guess. If your as clumbsy as a three peckered billy goat while hiking with your rod get a ugly stick.

For Coquitlam river 9' is good however Vedder is different story. I'd go for Vedder with 10'6 at least.
Agree with Ugly stick comment. It's a tank but a tank nonentless.
Why don't you check Fenwick or Shimano Technium.They are a bit more expensive but are really good for the price.

I really love my Clarus 10 foot 8-17lb rod. Medium heavy with fast action. It is also IM-8 construction. I used it for chum, pinks and coho this year when I wanted to use a spinning set up. Great warranty as well.

I have 9' clarus paired with curado used it so far for pinks and coho and also like it much. As far as Vedder goes its good if you want fish close to the shore ,but casting across some sections proves to be more challenging. With 10' however it shouldn't give to much of a trouble.

What I'm looking for is to buy something I could use all over the place. Don't wanna buy a specific rod for a specifis river. Immagine what the wife would say about that.
Are you all married? So you know how things sometimes go.
For her protection she is very supportive and fishes with me.
To you comment losos (it means salmon in my mother language), I have surprisingly over fished some experts on the Vedder last year with a 5 ', $19 rod I bought 6 years ago, and a reel made almost completely of plastic wich only can take 40 meters of 10 pound line.
I was using that rod on purpose, trying to convince my buddy that the fish doesn'r really care what reel and rod you use. Anyway, it was fun. (I'm talking coho fishing). Perhaps my homemade spinners were the recipe for success, who knows.
I have compared Fenwick of the same dimensions and power to the Berkley I'm talking about, the Berkley somehow felt better in my hand.
And yes I wanna have a low profile baitcast rell. Thinking Shimano Citica.

Love my 10'6 Fenwick Canadian Methods caster rod paired with my Abu Garcia 6500 C3. I slayed chums in the Stave, Pinks in Richmond & Langley Fraser and...well...casted nicely trying for Steelhead in the Vedder.

The parabolic butt section and feather weight make casting all day no issue at all.
