Vedder Sept 27 & 28
« on: September 28, 2006, 01:01:58 PM »

Had some good luck the last couple days with some quick easy casts to get some hoes. Yesterday I managed to hook and land a nice 8 pound hoe, which I found hiding in some shade away from the blazing sun yesterday. What a nice fish she was, and the roe she gave me. Today I got out again and fished the canal, I tried different flavors of wool, but recieved no action. Decided to switch it up and throw a blade through the little run holding about 30 fish in a crowed space, and 5th cast bam, FISH ON! took a good look, sweet, its a coho! I had 6lb test and the fish was around 10 so I didnt think id have that much trouble bringing it in, I was wrong. SNAP, fish gone, blade gone, money gone. :'( Wasnt very happy and dont know why my line snapped because the fish wasnt fighting that hard, must have damaged my line earlier. No more action came out of that hole and so I moved to a different spot, and squeezed in between some bottom bouncers. I started short floating with some different wool combos, and it wasnt till I put a small piece of orange wool on did another fish bite, FISH ON! Not much of a fight, and brought it in confused, was it a spring or a coho?  ??? couple of the guys said it was spring and the others coho. Still looks a bit odd to me for a coho, well any ways here is my 3rd coho this season, a nice 8 pounds im guessing.

Looks like a Spring Jack but it wouldnt of had any roe in it. So it's a small adult doe Spring. They have clipped several of the springs this year. But if it's a coho of what you say that's what I call genetics gone wrong.

beaten in during the bonk. I guess it couldn't have been a jack if it had eggs. Must be a small adult female.

Most definitely a spring doe.  Nice fish nonetheless.  Good work!

It was a male fish, some guy gave me his chum roe. The fish was hatchery clipped and the meat is red near the back and whitens out towards the belly. ??? LOL, I left the fish in a side pool while I was fishing. Bad Idea, the seagulls found him and took his eyes, and made off with his guts through the gills. They did a good job cleaning the fish.

Yeah they love those eyes - first thing to go and they clean them right out.
