Title: Recommendations for reel suitable for 2/3 weight
Post by: robbo1970 on December 10, 2015, 09:00:49 PM
Hi,

Want to ask for some help here. My four year old broke the handle off his fly reel and desperately want a new one from Santa. I ordered one from eBay but unfortunately the seller let us down and we never received it. Anyone got any recommendations, as I said he's four so not looking for anything high end, just something really to hold line.

Thanks

Rob

Orvis Battenkill I.  Awesome Little Reels, about $100 US, super light, classic click pawl. (I own one).  Wholesale might have them but I know for a fact Robinson's in Victoria should be able to get one for you.

Redington Zero 2.3.  Never used one, but seem pretty sweet. about $80 US.  Super light (same weight as the Orvis at 2.7 oz.)  Not sure about the drag style, more modern take on the lightweight non disc drag reel.

Redington Drift 2/3.  Tried one, went with the Orvis instead of the Drift as I preferred the spool release due to finger size.  Heavier reel, around 3.4 oz.  can be found on discount atm as they are discountinued but you have to look around.  should be $70 or so? (retail was $100)/

Hope you can find something in time!  I have no idea what your budget is, so I went with what I consider good inexpensive reels.
