How do you pack your spoons and spinners? I've seen guys use fly boxes, styrofoam, etc. As most river men don't carry tackle boxes anymore, how are you keeping your metal organized. Post pictures if you've got something cool to show us.

I was thinking of asking the same thing. Im just using a Plano box 4" x8" that has 5 spaces - Carries plenty of lures and fits nicely in a bigger pocket. I remember tom 'Rausenbal' had an episode of new fly fisher where he did river fishing with spinners and he packed 3-4 lures into a large pill sized tube that has a cord which will hold it over your neck. I think that size of tube is available at the dollar store and also used for watercraft small safety kits.

Flambeau plastic box. It has 6 slots that can carry 24 spinners/spoons easily.

i just use a 4x8 plano tray box
with removeable dividers that way you can switch it around depending on what gear i bring
and have small spaces for terminal tackle
you can buy them with antirust dividers to help prevent rust as well
its kinda big but so are the pockets in my vest so it works well for me

Plano 3213 , 2 sided blue lid 4"x 6.5" x 1.75" height , used it for years , still holding out.

My Trophy Tackle ones are put back in their own package and then the packages are placed onto a binder ring. Keeps them from rusting or damaging each other in a box

A Flambeau plastic box with removable slots.

So you guys with the big plastic cases, you carry these in the river with you?

I dont know about everyone else, but everything I could need for a day of fishing, fits inside my vest, and is on me the whole time.
Only time I have to get out of the water is when I get a tangle or have to pee.
I've got a clear 3x6 ish case in one front pocket, that carries my jigs, another 3x6 with lead, swivels, etc...
Then all my spoons/spinners stay in another 3x6, that I swap out for my jig box when im tossing spoons.
I could carry it all in my vest, but the 3rd box i would have to put in the back pocket of my vest so it becomes hard to access.
Cant say my vest is light, but it carries everything, it's not a tackle box haha, and I never get out of the water.

I use a soft case intended for flies.

Excel breath mints case (aluminum) is my favourite. Empty of the mints obviously. Also tried an Altoids case which worked okay.
I can fit 6 or so spoons in there (average spoon size being a koho 45). I have never found that I need more than 6 spoons for colour, size ect.; and I rarely loose more than 2 a day, so its more than sufficient.
Nice and compact. Fits perfectly into the pocket of my waders, along with 25 yard roll of leader, camera, and car keys. All you need for the day!!

I've been using these waterproof Plano boxes (http://www.planostoragesolutions.com/category/76-polypropylene-waterproof-storage-case.aspx) for most of my gear fishing terminal tackle.

My buddy made some homemade jig boxes from old plastic VHS cassette boxes. He hot glued in pieces of foam, and presto! I'll be making some myself.
Would be perfect for spoons and spinners too.

Great idea !

I carry 2 Woodstream plastic containers. 1 for the plastics ie gooey bobs and pink worms, the other 1 for my metal. They are water tight via a seal around the edge. It's a must as I hate rust on my metal and hate my plastics to bleed onto each other over time!
These containers have 5 compartments each and are about the size of a normal fly box. Fits perfect into my zippered pockets in my complete angler vest.
I believe Plano also makes water tight containers but the hinges are brittle.

Little tip I picked up from a friend in AB - after the day of fishing, once you've dried your gear, place the little anti-moisture packs that come with pills (I asked at Safeway Pharmacy and they saved a big bag for me from their large bottles) inside your gear box. Keeps any residual moisture from rusting things up! This is extremely important for those that store their gear in waterproof containers - it keeps water/moisture IN as well as out!
-
Desiccant packs, i use them for other things but that's a great idea getting them from the pharmacy, thanks.
Though my boxes, lower vest etc get below water level a few times every season for some reason... so that wouldn't work for me lol. I leave them open at home and give the metal a quick in season polish or two every year.
Also, spoons will scratch finish sliding around in boxes. Ive lined them with cloth, works OK except for the moisture issue, and i will keep certain ones in little bags, works very well.

The no rust ones are good I have over 50 spinners and spoons in a box that's 4x8 the anti rust works great

My company sells the desi pak 1/3 units, if you want a pail of 700 of them it's about $120. :)
