I'm a big fan of braided line and love using it. The only problem is in Japan it's super expensive at like $45 bucks a spool of 300yds. So I'm going through ebay and find many company's of braided line that I'm not familiar with with company names like Tuff line, Remington, Spectra, Stren etc etc. So who's good who isn't?

so is fireline still considerd the best in BC? Have you ever heard of Stren?

Note that Fireline isn't braided it's a fused material and is flat not round.
Anyway it's my favourite I have Power Pro on one setup-it's ok but I haven't used it a lot.
Tufline is a cheapo product IMO-coarser than any other-but I have had some for 10 years and it keeps on pluggin'.

$45/ 300yard spool isn't that expensive. like others mention, it cost atlease $50/300yard spool, its all depends on which brand you getting. Like, i just respool my TLD20 with 350 yard of 100lb Tuffline XP, which cost me close to 70 bucks.

ok well here's my delima I have to spool 5 rods for guiding this year and my target fish are Japanese seabass(suzuki) I'm using 6-7 foot rods with 3,000 series reels on boats. It's a casting game and last season I started using the braided lines. They just cast so smoothly that I want to use it for my customers. So what choice should I make? I want to buy one massive spool of like 1,500 yards so I have to make a good choice because it'll be expensive!
Last year I used this line called Hydro fine multicolord. It's good but expensive of course.

I'd say go with the big spool of whatever is popular in Japan.
With paying customers what if there are probs with a 'foreign product'?
People like what they like and are quick to blame what they don't-it's the same all over the world.
You can always use a 'bottom shot' of say 50 meters of mono to save on filling up each spool completely with braid.
Use a double uni to join the lines.

Let's see 200 yds is basically 5,000 yen ($65CDN) and I think I'll need about 500-600 yds plus some more to spare. That'll come to about $150. I'm looking on ebay and I can get 1,500 yards or tuffline or others for like $75 US plus $12 for shipping. I do like the idea of adding 30-40% mono first, you really don't need whole spool of braided line for this game.
I just want to know if these other name brands are good and I think most of the big name brands are going to be just as good.

I find the fireline is best 'cause the braided picks up water and becomes a little thicker as the day progresses. The fireline stays the same diameter all day as its water retention is nearly zero.
When the braided becomes waterlogged the casting properties are lost.

Nigel san, I am a fireline fan all the way, even using it for Steelies. Tried Tuf Line before, must too easily tangled for the 30 lb line weight I used. Yes, fireline sometimes can look worn out, but I have not broken off any fish on the braided portion of my line, usually the mono leader.

My biggest complaint with Fireline (aside from the cost) is it's tendency to dig into your spool. I now use Tuff XP. Problem solved.

Well Nigel, sinces it is for guiding, who cares you pay litte more for the line.. As soon as you land the big one, the tips will pay out all the gear; atlease thats how i look toward it.

Actaually I been going through Cabela's and man they've got some good prices..... I can get 1,200 yards of 20lb for $59 US plus $20 for shipping to Japan. I'll tell you right now in Japan I pay $50-$60 for 200 yards of braided line. What do you think Steelhead king will tuff line XP be good for the casting game?

FA, thanks for you recommendation. I have not tried the later types of Tuff lines. Perhaps I'll give the XP a try. Looks like Nigel san is leaning to the same conclusion. 300 yards of 30lb at $17.99 is a good deal from Cabella. But need to add freight, duty & brokerage. Does any one have the experience buying from Cabella, like how much of a total purchase before it is worth buying there?

Cabela's has a Canadian broker in Ontario and whatever taxes/delivery they'll be able to tell you when you order.
No Duty as the goods are mde in the usa.

How much is TUFF LINE XP in Canada?
I'm going to buy the big spool of 1,200 yards. Should be perfect! So I guess it's a good idea to add some mono first, say like 50%?

Dont know if it matters but I think power pro has the lowest lb rating/diamter ratio.
50lb power pro is rate the same as 12lb mono, as I recall 30 lb fireline=12 lb mono. PP 40lb braid has 10lb diamter!
I am thinking of getting a service spool of 50lb power pro, anyone interested in spooling up, give me an email (bctc@shaw.ca). should be around $25 for 300 yards.
Nigel, be aware that the green power pro is somehow inferior to the yellow power pro (in terms of the coating coming off) so stay away from it (this is according to my supplier in the US who uses it a lot). Nigel, maybe I could get 2 1500 spools and ship you one...let me knwo if u r interested and we'll try to work out the cost.

I've been using Stren's Superbraid.
Its tough, knots hold well, no fraying. Good product

the tackle shop I use was saying Stren Super Braid is great stuff...it freakin cost $18/100meters or about $50 for a abu 6500 or calcutta 400. Ouch, thats expensive!
