Hicks Lake Ice Over
« on: January 30, 2017, 07:40:22 AM »

Just wondering if anyone has been in the neighbourhood of hicks lake in the last week or so. Is this lake frozen over? Getting cabin fever and need to take the yak out for a spin.

Never seen hicks freeze over, some of the small bays and the shallow edges will have ice but even that's probably gone now

Unless there is a hot spring feeding into it, I would bet it froze over big time this year.  It is probably too sketchy to ice fish through at this point, yet probably still unfishable.

My neighbour's pool is still iced over.  I am in Langley.

Thanks for the reply's. I won't be ice fishing but rather taking my kayak out onto the lake. I suppose I may just have to go for a drive and find out.

I suppose you will be doing this, at best;

By all means go check it out, and report back.  I'm itching to fish soft water as well.

The 'big lakes' will be ice free.  But I would guess you're looking March for Hicks to be ice off.

https://www.anglersatlas.com/lake/100343/ice#map=14/-13548167.07/6333820.58

Ice-detector (beta) on anglers atlas show ZERO ice or snow on lake surface. And I've found it to be pretty accurate this past season.

I got the information for you. Hicks Lake is frozen hard. There is no access because the road is not plowed and the gate at Harrison East is closed.

Thanks for the heads up Rodney. Well I suppose that leaves the Harrison river for some bull trout or maybe even a steelhead. I know that's not frozen over.
