Title: Using a surf rod for bar fishing?

Advantages or disadvantages? Want to bar fish this summer for Chinook in the non-tidal Fraser.

It will work as long as it can chuck about 16oz of lead or more depending on your spot, might be a bit of a challenge to cast that much weight with a coffee grinder but im sure you could manage.
I would custom build a long rod holder if its a short rod to keep more line out of the water.

Are there casting rods that are rated to throw 16 oz of lead? The surf rod that I'm looking at is rated at 1-6 oz.

No boat.

The rod is 13' and has a line rating of 15-40 lbs.
