Hatchery Closures & $ cuts

I'll start looking into it, but can anyone fill me in here.  I heard Tenderfoot Hatchery on the Cheakamus will be closed.  Who's responsible?  Feds?  Gordo?  I'm in Vancouver East so I have an NDP MLA & MP whom I'll definitely write.

Well that's funny as I work at Tenderfoot and it's news to me. Were just ponding our chinook now and have started collecting adult coho so I kind of think it's all b.s. at this point. There are rumored cuts comming but these rumors have been around for 3 or 4 years now. We will wait and see but at this time I'm not loseing any sleep over it.

my DFO friend was mentioning that they are looking at unloading the Cap hatchery into some sort of private deal.

"Salmon ranching" I believe he called it.

lol,  isn't it salmon ranching right now?  There are no wild fish on the cap anymore.  The hatchery exists solely for the recreational and native fisheries.

Here's some backhanded thinking: sell the Cap hatchery to the local native band then allow a commercial fishery just in that area that coincides with the return time. :-*

Hey, I feel better now.  Love that river, although it's a little uglier since the Big Flood.  Caught a few monster Coho in there this season, but really haven't had those great multi-fish days since 2001!  Thanks to all who responded to this topic ;D

I also have heard last year only 70 percent of hatchery raised coho were clipped at some FOC hatcheries and it may be reduced this coming spring again.

Anyone else with further info on this or was it just a rumor.

inch creek hatchrery also clips a certain percentage of hatchery coho. this a rip off to every fisherman who buys a freshwater license. is the gene pool theory being thrown out the window? don't figure.

don't forget, the Grey monster also sits on a local fault. Why do you think the canyon is there in the first place? Two sides of a fault...makes for a tasty little scenerio that few like to talk about.
