Tunkwa & Leighton Lake ice fishing report, January 26th 2014
« on: January 28, 2014, 10:51:54 PM »

It was a fantastic weekend up here at Tunkwa Lake, with clear sky, bright sun, and temperature hovering right below freezing all day, perfect! Morning fog burned off quickly. More than a few suntanned faces were out there.

We have had more guests out ice fishing this weekend, taking advantage of the beautiful conditions, with many moving around more, and covering some different areas on the lake. We saw some nice rainbow trout being caught with several in excess of 3lbs, and more than one story of the big one getting away under the ice or coming up through the hole. Both shrimp and worms produced, and a couple different anglers mentioned the trout were grabbing the baits on the way down.

Reports from neighbouring Leighton Lake were mixed, some were into fish while others found it a bit slower. Ice conditions were prime, with over 12" of ice, and no slush to be found.
