Title: Trying to identify this fry
Post by: lhtrees on May 24, 2020, 06:31:46 PM
Some folks found these fry in a nearby creek. Any idea what kind of fish this is? The parr marks are very irregular and blotchy. Sockeye? Maybe too young to determine?

Thanks for any insights!

Thanks so much! I never would have figured that out but now that I have looked it up online, that's definitely what it is. I have never seen these in these streams but these kids were netting waterbugs and found dozens of them in the water. Cool! It's a little feeder creek into the Nicomeckl.

Not unexpected, but interresting to see the variation in colouration from the pics you posted (presumably of a resident freshwater stickleback) and the sea run stickleback in the this video, beginning at 4:20

Edit: Doh!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yI4ieCgZjVE

A video you are very familiar with,  Chris!

The Nicomekl itself has a large population of sticklebacks.
