Buck and I after fishing stopped to see the dismantling of a camp at Teskey today. Talked to the CO and City of Chilliwack enforcement who where at the work site.
In the same location a van had both windows smashed out. Will post pictures later on the FVSS FB page.

Surprise surprise, they have already torn down 3 camps in the Sardis/Rotary trail area. This year has been brutal, between the used needles at the Vedder elementary school play ground to the cracked out prostitues strolling the DQ/McDonalds area over the last 3-4mths... Not sure on the validity of the info but was told the City of Abbotsford gave out bus tickets in the spring :o

two windows broken does not seem like the M/O of a car break in.
looks like some other issue.

We have all been through this before. I have been hit two time in a ten year period. Now I leave the car unlocked, and take the insurance papers with me, fishing.

I agree with Redder. Don't think this was a break in. Why would they smash two windows and draw more attention to themselves? It's usually get in, get out.

Two thieves, one on each side. They can search the vehicle quicker that way.

Yeah, no. If you are thief you don't smash extra windows and draw heat to search the vehicle quicker...one might opt for the power locks. Or at worst, open another door once inside.

Besides car thieves usually work alone. Joy riders on the other hand...

Maybe someone was cranky they got low holed.
Maybe someone pissed someone off for killing a Sockeye.
Maybe someone didn't pay a debt, slept with a wife.
Maybe someone needed new windows.
(Deductable isn't worth one window.)
It's a very visible spot whether one window or two.
Used by hikers, bikers and dog walkers.
A picture maybe worth a thousand words but also worth a bunch of questions.
Regardless of your friends and enemy's. Don't leave stuff in your car you can't afford to lose.
And definitely don't make it visible.

Thieves that steal cars might. Thieves that steal from cars usually are in pairs.

Probably broken into some time between 2200-0400, typical working hours for thieves.

Is the "Crackhead camp" you are speaking of just past Tamahi? I was fishing near there last Friday - thinking I was in an ok area all to myself that someone had camped at recently (firepit and a bit of garbage) - when all of a sudden the pile of blankets beside me started to move. No tent or car - just a person sleeping out in the wild. Very odd. Noticed 2 tents on the bank a little higher up - but again no vehicles.

If it is overnight, junking breaks in rummages around. Time passes, junkie comes back and approaches from other side,looking for cash for another quick fix, forgets he already broke into this one...repeat.

Crackhead camp is all over now, they busted it up so they have spread out all over the river

A friend of mine which is an RCMP officer told me the same thing to do years ago. A locked car won't deter them if they really wanted to get in. It would save you the insurance deductible plus a lot of hassle in the long run

I don't buy into that theory one bit.
I have personally seen a thief at the store parking lot walking around checking door handles. If it's locked he would move on. He never got to any unlocked doors before I back checked him into the car he was trying out.
In heaty areas or areas where cars are clustered I would lock the doors. Think like a thief when you park your car. Place the car in open areas or in line of sight with passing traffic. Try to get as much exposure to the road and passing public as possible.

Locks only keep good people out.

Yes, checking door handles is one method. When there is a high probability of people hearing a car window break or they have release conditions not to possess tools, they check the door handles. Even if police caught them...
1) Witnesses usually cannot pick out the thief in a photo lineup. The distance between the thief and the witness is too far away or too much time has passed since the witness saw the thief.
2) Checking door handles is not a chargeable offence.
Trust me, thieves are a lot smarter than what people give them credit for and they skilled in their craft.

Saw another pile of glass at the other parking area at Teskey this AM. As I was there 2 chaps in dark clothes, hoodies, back packs and both on bikes came cruising by.
I stayed around for a bit making sure they did not come back to visit the cars parked there.

Seen a guy posted on facebook serve&beware guy driving a older chev pickup with a black tailgate cruising the dykes on the vedder hes a known thief he has been video of him steeling a boat in Chilliwack throw rocks at this guy !he is looking for another .
