First Day Out of 2010
« on: August 02, 2010, 07:58:27 AM »

I went out fishing with my Uncle and his friend on Saturday morning for my first attempt at a Spring this year. Left at 4 AM and after hitting a bar near Laidlaw where the water seemed too shallow for Springs, we went to a place in Agassiz where about 30 other hopefuls were trying their luck. Was a little overcast but looked like a perfect day until: A small aluminum boat with about 4 guys on board decided to motor their way to exactly where we were casting (about 30 feet out of our reach), and decided to drop a drift net, dragging it from where we were all they way to where the last set of sportfisherman were. How ignorant! Needless to say all that anyone caught that day (the entire row of fisherman) were 2 sockeyes (released gently in the water) and everyone else just gave up. The worst part was that for hours, there were no other boats fishing and miles of open river where these guys could have dropped their nets, but INTENTIONALLY they kept going back and forth repeatedly in front of the sport fisherman. And you wonder why there is such animosity between certain groups. Hopefully next time will be better.

So they didn't approach all shore anglers, kindly inform all prior to their netting and anglers didn't enthusiastically reel in their lines every time a drift is happening like in this video? ;D

That was beautiful!  I need to go get a tissue.....

Now I'd like to see a video of a regular day on the river with the individuals being real.  ;D

First post on this forum,

Just had to chime in, that video had me LMAO. Makes me want to hold hands and dance around the campfire with them.

It's a shame their aboriginal right to fish has interwoven with our own greed fueled, consumer-based society.

What a crock. Should have been on the seabird bar yesterday. They were lucky they did not get bombed with betty's. Two boats both sides of the river all day long and not even a wave to say hi. Last time I looked that river was huge and they choose to go right in front of us. Hows that for rubbing our noses  in it.

perhaps it's matter of respect on both sides.
I'm happy to share with all and feel thankful for the opportunity.
We're blessed with wonderful resource and if approached in a respectful manner ,
will provide us with soul enriching experiences and wholesome food.
And we can't get that back once it's lost.
CF
ps
