I went out fishing with my Uncle and his friend on Saturday morning for my first attempt at a Spring this year. Left at 4 AM and after hitting a bar near Laidlaw where the water seemed too shallow for Springs, we went to a place in Agassiz where about 30 other hopefuls were trying their luck. Was a little overcast but looked like a perfect day until: A small aluminum boat with about 4 guys on board decided to motor their way to exactly where we were casting (about 30 feet out of our reach), and decided to drop a drift net, dragging it from where we were all they way to where the last set of sportfisherman were. How ignorant! Needless to say all that anyone caught that day (the entire row of fisherman) were 2 sockeyes (released gently in the water) and everyone else just gave up. The worst part was that for hours, there were no other boats fishing and miles of open river where these guys could have dropped their nets, but INTENTIONALLY they kept going back and forth repeatedly in front of the sport fisherman. And you wonder why there is such animosity between certain groups. Hopefully next time will be better.
