best players in their position

If you were to put together a "dream team" with any player in history at their position, who would you pick?

How can you not have Gretzky in that lineup? Gretzky is the best player in history hands down. I would put down Terry Sawchuk down as the best goalie of all time. I agree with the rest except with the current players. Elias and Iginla would not make my top line.

There will always be a debate between Gretzky and Lemieux but if I had to have one of them I would have taken Lemieux. Higher PPG over his career, and his 230lb frame doesn't hurt either.

As for Elias, I strongly feel that you will not find a more complete package at the LW position. Everyone knows about his offense (He got 96pts on the Devils during their era of playing the trap with little to no help). But he is also a very sound player in his own zone and  is very often on NJ first penalty killing unit.

Who would you pick over Iginla?

I would pick Heatley at Right Wing and Ovechkin at Left Wing with Crosby in the middle of course. That line would dominate and no team would have a chance. Oh and Heatley is a +25, pretty sound if you ask me ;) Oh and instead of Pronger I would have Souray on defense. He is having a career year.

Mario and Gretz play the same position they cant be on the same line. I know allot of sportscasters put Lemeiux on the wing when asked this question but he was no winger.

If you were building a team to win the Stanley Cup you would want two sophmores?

I don't know why you wouldn't want Elias, within the hockey community he is hearalded as the complete package when it comes to LW's. Just look at what New Jersey accomplished last year. They went from in 10th place in the East on Jan 1rst 2006 to 3rd place by seasons end. The big difference, the return of Patrick Elias.

I wouldn't argue with Danny Healty vs. Iginla. To me they are both close.

But Souray over Pronger. You aren't serious are you? Souray is having a wicked awsome year so far from an offensive point of view but his defensive game is seriously lacking. Just ask Jason Spezza or any of the other numerous players that have made him look silly. Besides, Pronger has nearly the same point totals (albiet signifigantly fewer goals) in fewer games.

If you want to talk all around players my picks would change. I picked these players based purely on offensive talent. Souray is better on the PP and Pronger is better killing penalties and better in his own zone. Pronger's offensive output is not what it once was. If I were building a stanley cup contender I would have Pronger on defense rather than Souray. Might pick Scott Niedermayer over Pronger though.

Well who are your pick for each player at their position. You are building your team to win the Cup. I'm interested in your insight.

So you would have really picked Harvey on your team if you were going for offensive talent?  ???

In todays NHL I would say this is who I would take:

LW: Henrik Zetterberg
C: Sidney Crosby
RW: Dany Heatley
D: Nicklas Lidstrom
D: Scott Niedermayer
G: Martin Brodeur

In NHL History this is who I would honestly pick

Hull
Gretzky
Howe
Orr
Harvey
Sawchuk

Harvey was the best all around player, you cannot deny him to the list its like leaving Gretzky off it ;)

Forward is Forward as a d is a d Gretzky ahead  Lemieux  you must have heard that before two centerman on the same line, and  they would have remand on the same line if they were on the same NHL team . Tell me that would have made either one of them a worse player if they would have played on the wing NOT.  Just rember it is ALL ABOUT WINNING BABY .BB2000 where did you play your minor hockey ?
