Thought of creating a different thread for vedder river
Went there 2 days ago and what a gong show on the lower vedder !
So many people with 6 to 8 foot leaders on a water this low.... constantly snagging pinks and few hooking chinooks anywhere on the head and no one marking their license.....no wonder all these fish are tight lipped....some might be new anglers who just copy others.
if people were not using long leaders and stop snagging them, they can actually be more productive as some fish would still be eager to bite.
My Dad saw this circus for the first time and asked why are these people just harming the fish left and right, kicking the fish etc, he was disgusted and we left.
We went to another spot where there were few people and those who were not snagging, we both got one pink salmon each on a 8mm orange bead, both were released.

It’s the same group that got the crossing closed down. Bunch of clowns. Seen this stuff happen in the past but never with groups this large.
Rain will help a lot. Not just with more water but need some color as well. Hope to see DFO out more often on the Vedder now that the Fraser is closed

DFO guy was there on Monday, checked the hatch coho in my back trunk, not sure if he’d be interested having a conversation with those snaggers
-
just curious, hard or soft bead was working for you?

Definitely its more people foul hooking than previous years. I reported to DFO, but dont think they ever listen. Maybe if they get 100 reports in a day.....

I was using cleardrift soft bead, while my Dad used BNR

I've fished the vedder 25 years and never had a a DFO check my vehicle. How did that come about?

The same guy was patrolling the fraser spot that I was fishing for the last two weeks, we met almost everyday, so had a little chat and he asked to take a look at my fish and asked if I could give him the fish head, I showed him the fish but kept the head…the cheek meat is my 5 year old daughter’s fav….

That is really odd that he would ask for the head. Suppose to leave the fish whole till you arrive at your residence so the spieces and length can be determined..
-
Landed 4 released 3 and lost one today; all chinook.
Some goon beaked me out in the end after bragging he landed 30 coho just before he showed up in my spot.
If a guy is fishing a run by himself give a couple extra steps of room and dont cast 10 feet up stream of him. Have some manners.

On a bead or roe?
-
Roe.
I don't fish beads because everyone else does.
If I don't have roe I'll tie on some wool.

He said he wanted to retrieve the chip in that hatch salmon head…

Probably for the Head Recovery Program.

What I find incredible is lots of fish still make it past everyone all the way to hatchery

Found it slow in the lower first light. A lot of rippers upstream of me maybe scaring the fish? But 1 of the 2 people below me actually fishing lost a coho or jack nook at shore.
Went upriver a bit and got a couple hits late morning (landed none) then dashed.
Fish definitely all throughout the system from what I've heard and upcoming rain will only help.

looking at the weather forecast…would there be a blowout next week?

if weatherman on his game, yes. Ground is really dry, won't soak up much water. Should be good by Friday/weekend imo.

Actually the opposite. The ground will soak up the rain like a sponge. We need consecutive days of steady rain to make a difference in the extremely low water conditions.

Drove through yarrow yesterday afternoon. Never seen so many cars and bodies on the river. No thank you.

Never? seems normal at this time

Fished morning today, was on fire. Had 10+ bites and hooked into 3 species today, kept 2 cohos. Saw a chum as well, so everything is in there.
Rain yesterday gave the river some good color, now just need some more water!

dead mid river for us; lots of folks but maybe 3 fish caught in 5 hours with about 25 people around.
-
Went to the vedder today and landed 1 pink using a tasmanian devil knock off. There were hundreds of people which made it difficult to find places to cast. Unfortunately, I also saw lots of people snagging pinks, and they all pulled the "no english card" on me ::)
Anyone got tips for chinooks in the vedder?
-
Heard there was a fight in the canal. Can anybody confirm ?

More than likely you will find them in the faster current areas of the run, although I have hooked them floating a spoon in a walking speed run. Either run small wool ties, beads or use lures, roe works too but fish are much more lock jawed in a lot of spots until there is more rain and water rises. That's what I have noticed

yeah I tried fishing the deeper runs, but had no luck.
Do you normally find them along in the lower section or are they found throughout the river?

definitely throughout. The more upriver the more green they are, although still taste fine. As time goes on more will be upriver for sure which you probably already know. Last year even in mid October people were catching chinook and even some silver ones.
-
Do you guys prefer float fishing for chinooks or lure casting?

Sorry everyone, I haven't had a chance to start this season's thread until now. I'm going to close this one and continue all posts at:
