Title: The Salmon Hatchery Crutch
Post by: RalphH on June 01, 2022, 08:11:04 AM
"How We Got Here:

From their beginnings in the late 19th century, salmon hatcheries have gone from cure to band-aid to crutch. Now, we can’t live without manufactured fish."

A new article from part of series in Hakai Magazine where the author uses the writings of Roderick Haig-Brown to trace the long and troubled history of salmon hatchery based 'enhancement'.

Loved the map in the article. People should look and note the dense concentration of hatcheries in the Salish Sea Puget Sound region area which is coincidentally, one area that salmon populations are increasingly dropping to shockingly low numbers.

Today’s article in the series and the necessity of hatcheries to honour 170 year old treaties.
