Title: Stave Lake, June 19th 2011
Post by: armytruck on June 20, 2011, 05:56:28 PM
Had a good day at Stave for fathers day . Besides The wet weather we hooked a few Bull Trout 5 to 7 pounders spoon casting and trolling with a spoon 3/4 and 1 oz Ironhead did the trick . The water is high and so it is a fairly safe ride out to the main lake . Still need to take extra precautions with all the widow makers floating on top and some just under the surface of the water After a few hours we needed to stretch the ole legs  :P , sitting in the boat for hours I get a little cramped . Found a good spot up near the top end of the lake that had a bit of a beach . We chowed down a ton of salmon berry's that are ripened  everywhere and called it a day , ( fathers day )  ;D . Oh and last but not least here is a beauty caught on the stretch back to the boat launch . (http://i1114.photobucket.com/albums/k532/Armytruck2010/MARKANDTERRYSFATHERSDAY292.jpg)

that fish is a Cutthroat trout. We have caught the odd one in Chilliwack Lake and they look exactly like that.
My old father-in -law used to operate a house boat on Stave Lake for BC Hydro back in the 50's and he said they caught lots of them. he called them "silver trout".

Where would I launch and are there markers in the water for navigating up?
I've never fished there ,probably one of the only lakes around that I haven't.
Any info would be great.

PS that is a super looking fish!!

There is a public boat launch close to the dam . Yes there are markers all the way to the main lake . Follow the markers and be carefull not to go off course . Even though the water is high does not mean your in the clear . There are huge stumps just below the surface of the water and if you go off course LOOK OUT  :o . and watch for deadheads and debris floating all over  Take it slow and you will have a good time fishing in stead of paddling , or worse , swimming  :-\ .
