One
of the best flies for cutthroat trout and coho salmon.
Materials
Hook: Mustad 9672 #10 Streamer
Thread: Red 6/0 Uni-Thread
Tail: Natural Mallard
Body: Silver or Gold Metallic braid
Wing: Natural Mallard
Wing#2/head: Deer hair
Steps
1.Wrap the tying thread to the end of the hook.
2. Take a small clump of natural mallard feathers and
tie them in about 1/2 the size of the hook shank.
3. Tie in the silver or gold metallic braid.
4. Wrap the metallic braid about 1/4 of the hook length
before the eye.
5. Tie in another small clump of natural mallard feathers
so they just extend past the end of the hook.
6. Cut off a small clump of deer hair.
7. Put the deer hair in the hair stacked and pull out
all the unwanted small fibres.
8. Tie in the deer hair so it extends just past the
end of the hook and let it spin, extending out all the fibres.
9. Whip finish and cut off the tying thread.
10. Be careful and take your scissors to trim off the
long unwanted fibres and build up a neat head.
You now have one of the most effective fry imitation
patterns ready for the water.
