BC Hydro is currently at the planning stage of an upgrade project for Ruskin Dam, which may affect recreational usage of Stave River and nearby sites in the next few years.
Stave River offers an year-round fishery. In winter and spring, anglers enjoy targeting trout and steelhead. In summer, families can catch northern pikeminnow and other minnow species. Its fall fishery draws many anglers who enjoy catching chum and coho salmon.
Under the current proposal, access to the east side of Stave River will be closed during construction as Ruskin Dam recreational area will be closed. Single lane traffic will be in effect along Wilson Road on the west side of the river, which permanent no parking is already in effect. These changes will close off most access for shore anglers who utilize the river during the fall salmon season.
BC Hydro is seeking for public feedbacks during this planning stage and you can provide them by going to this webpage.
