The Art of Czech Nymphing by Todd Oishi

Posted on June 9th, 2010 by Rodney Hsu, webmaster

The Art of Czech Nymphing course provides an in-depth study into this highly-productive, short-line river nymphing technique, which was developed and refined by the competitive fly fishers in central Europe. In the spring of 2006 Todd traveled to the Czech Republic to attend the Czech Nymphing Masterclass, where he studied this highly-effective nymphing technique. He received personal coaching from Jiri Klima (coach and captain of the Czech National Fly Fishing Team) in the very same rivers and streams from which the Czech Nymphing technique had evolved. During the spring of 2007 Todd made a second trip to Europe, but this time he traveled to Southeastern Poland where he studied the Polish Nymphing technique through Vladi Trzebunia - a past world champion and internationally-renowned Polish Nymphing coach. This course is based on the teachings of these two masters of the art of nymphing along with Todd's personal experiences, observation and adaptations to suit British Columbia's "single fly only" angling regulation.

Although this course covers all the basics of the Czech Nymphing technique, it also provides some valuable insight into several other highly-effective European nymphing techniques (Polish, Spanish and French Nymphing) that can be used in conjunction with the Czech Nymphing technique. Todd will teach you how to construct the most effective leaders, and will educate you on how to tie (or select) the patterns that have proved to be most effective for this technique. You will also learn how to identify and target the locations of a river that tend to hold the greatest concentration of fish. Once you begin to realize the potential of this technique, it will surely change the way that you approach and fish your favourite rivers and streams.
