The Chilliwack River Watershed Strategy (CRWS) document will be presented to the public at a meeting at 7:00pm on November 26th at the Chilliwack Fish & Game Protective Association Hall. There will be a power point presentation, a hard copy handout and photography. Everyone interested in the sustainability of the Chilliwack River Watershed is invited and there is no admission charge! Coffee will also be free!
A pilot project was commenced in 2004 and partnered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the Fraser Valley Regional District and the Fraser Valley Regional Watersheds Coalition with help from the Fraser Basin Council and public input to look with other government agencies at issues of concern in the Chilliwack River Watershed with a goal toward achieving better decision making processes. The Project Team has reached a stage that they feel it is good to present the document to the public. A hard copy will be available for you at the meeting. Electronic copies are available from the website.
Over the five years of work, issues have changed and new problems have arisen. Where should we go from here? Your consideration and input is requested.
Following the CRWS presentation the Chilliwack/Vedder River Conservancy Photo Contest awards will be presented. Over the past 10 months, participants in the Vedder and Chilliwack River Conservancy Photo Contest have been hard at work taking photos of the Chilliwack/Vedder River. We are quite happy with the results as we have many photos that capture the diversity of our great river. We would like to invite you to come and participate in the award ceremony and auction of the photos.
All money raised will be donated to the Chilliwack River Action Committee, a non-profit organization consisting of volunteers from the community. The committee's vision is to preserve and maintain the Chilliwack River corridor as an internationally recognized recreational and educational experience for future generations to enjoy. The ceremony and auction will be held in conjunction with a presentation of the Fraser Valley Regional District's watershed planning strategy. Please help to support our community and maintain the future of our resource.
