Job Opening at Georgia Strait Alliance

Georgia Strait Alliance is currently looking for a salmon aquaculture campaigner. The campaigner will be responsible for building a local campaign in target areas of the Strait, including the Campbell River/Discovery Islands/Bute Inlet area. He/she will work within a larger alliance of NGOs on a coordinated campaign, with a focus on public education and grassroots mobilization in the Central/Northern Strait, and Sunshine Coast, particularly around fish farm siting applications.
Candidates should have the following qualifications:
- excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
- proven grassroots organizing skills
- proven experience in communicating with government officials at the local/regional level
- good computer literacy (word processing, email, internet, development of presentations)
- ability to work independently as well as in a team
- good time management and proven record of accountability and reporting
- credible personal style/presentation
- good understanding of the communities within the designated geographic area
- ability to travel easily within the designated area (i.e. it would be a strong asset to have his/her own boat).
A good understanding of the environmental and social issues related to salmon aquaculture would be an asset. Location of workplace is flexible although the organizer should be based within one of the geographic areas of focus.
The contractor will be responsible to the Campaign Coordinator. This is a half-time position.
