British Columbia Lake Stewardship Society's Questionnaire
Posted on November 13th, 2006 by Rodney Hsu, webmaster

The British Columbia Lake Stewardship Society is ready to launch our “LakeKeepers Workshops” for the spring of 2007.

In 2004, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada funded the completion of the LakeKeepers manual. Some of you may already have a guide or have heard about the guide. For those of you that have not, this manual is a lakeshore resident’s guide to the stewardship and monitoring of lakes. Its purpose is to provide education, awareness, technical training and support for curious and concerned lake stewards.

The next component of LakeKeepers will involve an interactive workshop delivered by qualified and certified instructors. Instructors will use a classroom approach to introduce limnology (the study of freshwater) and lead lake stewards through the manual. The second portion of the workshop will involve “getting your feet wet”, the field component.

Every lake system is different and therefore requires its own lake management objectives and goals. Many lake stewards and lake stewardship groups have a basic understanding of their lake, but need more information and tools to actively manage their lake needs.

Therefore, the BCLSS has designed a questionnaire for lake stewards and groups and would like your feedback, so we can include topics in each workshop that may be of interest to you. Some topics of interest already expressed by lake stewards include, grant writing, water quality sampling, watershed planning, aquatic plant management and mapping, environmental assessments and more. Please complete this questionnaire and indicate in question #4 what topics our concerns you have regarding your lake.

Lakekeepers Questionnaire

The BCLSS is preparing a “LakeKeepers Workshop” in your area in the spring of 2007. We are also looking for people interested in becoming certified “LakeKeepers Trainers”. A background or knowledge of basic limnology and biology is needed in order to receive certification as a trainer. If you are interested in becoming a trainer or taking the “LakeKeepers” workshop, please complete our questionnaire and return to our office, by:
