Title: Project Rivershed Coordinator
Position Summary:
The Project Rivershed Coordinator will work closely with the Project Rivershed Committee, the Brunette Rivershed Advisory Group, the Project Facilitators and the Executive Director to coordinate and implement Project Rivershed in the Brunette Rivershed.
Project Summary:
Project Rivershed builds community capacity, educates the public, and encourages conservation and stewardship of natural resources, especially salmon and water. It encourages individuals and communities to reduce their ecological footprint (e.g. energy & water use) in riversheds to sustainable levels. We have developed a five-step community process to help achieve our project goals and objectives, including,
Step 1: Rivershed Profile (i.e. Coordinator prepares a socio-economic & environmental snapshot of the rivershed).
Step 2: Rivershed Vision (i.e. Hold a community workshop to develop a vision statement of rivershed sustainability for their rivershed, including goals & objectives).
Step 3: Rivershed Priorities (i.e. Hold a community workshop to determine rivershed sustainability priorities that address rivershed health & sustainability.)
Step 4: Rivershed Communication & Action Plan (i.e. Hold a community workshop to develop an action and communication plan for Rivershed Sustainability).
Step 5: Revise & Adjust (i.e. Periodically check in with action groups and update rivershed profile, vision, priorities and communication & action plan).
Responsibilities & Duties:
Guiding and supporting the work of the local community & Brunette Rivershed Advisory Group, the Project Rivershed Coordinator, a salaried staff/contract position reporting to the Executive Director, will play a lead role in implementing Project Rivershed in the Brunette Rivershed. The PRC will be selected for his/her strong group facilitation and communication/marketing skills, project management research protocols skills and experience in community development.
The Project Rivershed Coordinator’s role includes,
- Facilitating the delivery and marketing of Project Rivershed in the Brunette Rivershed, including assisting with the implementation of the 5-step community process.
- Ensuring the process is well documented and all reports are completed on time.
- Arranging meetings & workshops, booking facilities and inviting community members.
- Developing and presenting the Brunette Rivershed Profile to the community.
- Assisting the workshop facilitator with the community sessions, including evaluation.
- Supporting the community with the delivery of their action plans.
- Guiding the RSBC’s research program, including tool development (e.g. User’s Guide, maps, Solutions Guide, etc.)
- Communicating the results (of the Project Rivershed process) to the community.
- Assisting with database development, including media contacts.
- Assisting with project fund-raising.
- Providing regular reports to the Executive Director and Board of Directors as required.
- Other tasks as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
- Post secondary education (degree or diploma) or related experience
- Computer & Technical skills (e.g. common office software)
- Communication skills (e.g. media relations, public speaking & writing press releases)
- Administration skills (e.g. drafting & filing reports)
- Experience with community/group process
- People skills (e.g. comfortable building relationships with NGOs, community groups, business and all levels of government)
- Self motivated, well organized and works well with a team
- Must possess a high level of energy, enthusiasm and works well under pressure (e.g. meeting deadlines)
- Local knowledge of the Brunette Rivershed
- Knowledge of sustainability issues
- Experience in fund-raising
Reports to: Executive Director
Term: Full-time, term position (September 2006 - March 2007).
Salary: $3,500 p/month (based on a 5 day work week)
Hours: 35 hrs/week (includes weekend & evening work)
Closing Date: September 5th 2006
Start Date: Immediately (by mid September, at the latest)
