2005: Thresholds in Habitat Supply: A Review of the Literature
From Pamela Zevit, Como Watershed Society:
Presidents Report
This document though of the "applied science
voluminous type" is the long-awaited final version of a
draft from 2002 prepared by students of the Forest Ecology program
(combined REM program @ SFU and
CACR @ UBC). Some familiar names in the acknowledgements for those
involved with the Resource &
Environmental Management Program at Simon Fraser. It is a good reference
document for anyone
involved in ecosystem management at a range of scales.
December 2004 WLAP Thresholds in Habitat
Supply: A Review of the Literature (PDF 1.92MB) This
report, Wildlife Report R-27, is written by P. R. Dykstra, and is
a review of literature dealing
with thresholds in the response of species to changes in the amount
of habitat. It reflects the
state of our knowledge about non-linear or threshold
change that may have rapid, drastic effects
on species or ecosystems. Ecological thresholds involve a change
in the rate of response to
ecosystem change; a critical value of an ecosystem property at which
previously linear or unobserved
change becomes a drastic transformation.
