2005: Tolmie Slide Update
From CRAC:
There is still a danger as only about 1/2 of the
cracked away material has come down. The remaining could come down
unannounced and could be a danger to anyone fishing below. If you
are fishing downstream and the river suddenly drops, watch out.
It could be followed by a sudden flush.
Unexpectedly the river cleaned up very quickly after the slide in
the early morning of January 7. When taking a good look at the situation
we noticed that the slump came down downstream of the protected
area but pushed out the two end groynes. These groynes were pushed
out and upstream with the spread of the slump material. They have
formed a rock edge around the slump and are slowing down its erosion.
Our plans are to carry on next summer and complete the third phase
of the stabilization project. There will likely be some changes
to the original plan.
