2009 Derby Results

The 66th annual Boxing Day Steelhead Derby on the Chilliwack River resulted in 266 entries and the weigh-in of ten prized hatchery winter steelhead. For a derby story, please see Chris Gadsden's "Ten prized catches at successful Boxing Day Derby".

    Ticket Sales

    Tickets are available until December 24, 2009 at Chilliwack Dart & Tackle, Fred’s Custom Tackle, Pointa Vista Café, Kent Outdoors, Hub Sports, and Reaction Fly and Tackle.

    On the day of the derby, tickets will be available from 6:00 am to 10:00 am at the Chilliwack Fish & Game Clubhouse (48685 Chilliwack Lake Road, across from Thompson Park).

    Ticket Punches

    All participating anglers must have their ticket punched at one of the designated punch stations on the morning of the Derby, before proceeding to fish. ONLY ONE TICKET MAY BE PURCHASED PER ANGLER and those who weigh in a fish must present both their punched ticket and their valid and legally filled out fishing license to validate their fish’s place in the contest.

    PUNCH STATIONS WILL BE LOCATED AT:

  • LICKMAN ROAD 6:30 am to 8:30 am
  • TAMAHI BRIDGE 6:30 am to 8:30 am
  • THE CLUBHOUSE 6:30 am to 10:00 am
  • Fishing Areas

    For the purpose of this contest, fishing will be on the Chilliwack / Vedder River from the confluence of Slesse Creek and downstream to the Hwy. 1 Bridge. Fish must only be caught in the Chilliwack / Vedder River on December 26, 2009, during the contest.

    Derby Day Schedule

    Coffee at Clubhouse start at 6:00 am

  • Ticket Sales at Clubhouse: 6:00 am – 10:00 am
  • Lunch: 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Weigh-in Scale: Closes 2:00 pm
  • Prize Distribution: starts 2:30 pm

    Trophies will be awarded in the following order:

  • Heaviest fish weighed in (King Fish Trophy)
  • First fish weighed in
  • 2nd heaviest fish weighed in
  • 3rd heaviest fish weighed in
  • 4th heaviest fish weighed in
  • 5th heaviest fish weighed in
  • Heaviest fish by a club member
  • Heaviest fish by a lady
  • Heaviest fish by a junior
  • Heaviest fish by a senior
  • Smallest fish weighed in
  • Hidden weight fish
