Trout Fishing in Vancouver
Freshwater Fishing Regulations

Located at the heart of Coquitlam, Lafarge Lake is just one of a dozen urban lakes that provides convenient access and fast fishing for entry-level and youth anglers. The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout between March and November by the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery.

Fishing can either be done from shore, a small boat or float tube. Lafarge Lake is bordered by a nature trail so shore access is very easy. The beach along the eastern shoreline provides an open area for beginners while the shaded shoreline along the other sections of the lake is a good refuge on a sunny day. Fishing is best between March and November but it can be productive at times during the winter months.

Lafarge Lake is located at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam. Access the park via Pinetree Way North. Several parking lots are available around the lake.

Sitting with a trout rod by the quiet, shaded shoreline of Lafarge Lake in the afternoon is a relaxing ending that many urban residents long for. When resting your bait on the bottom, a holder can position your rod so bites can be detected easily. A rod holder also prevents your rod and reel from being damaged on the ground.

The eastern lake shore is made of a long beach, which is very open and can be accessed from a paved path. It is a good practice site for novices who wish to fine-tune their casting skills. The remaining shoreline also has convenient accesses as well as trees that provide a cool refuge on a sunny day. Due to the size of the lake, anglers also prefer to access the lake by a float tube or pontoon boat.

The Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery produces these Fraser Valley 3N rainbow trout, which are released for anglers to catch. Most are 10 to 14 inches in length but some may grow much bigger if left alone in the lake. The common carp also inhabit the waters of Lafarge Lake. Despite of their large size, carp are sensitive to disturbance so catching them is not always easy. A piece of dough or bread usually does the trick.
