Fishing
information can be fetched so easily these days on the internet.
One no longer needs to rush down to the local library or tackle
store before closing hours to retrieve a couple of tips. A few clicks
in front of the screen and you can obtain the latest fishing reports,
water conditions, regulations and best deals on fishing tackle.
Sounds simple doesn't it? This is not
always the case. If the key words are too generic, search engines
usually fetch up useless information that can take hours to sort
through. The process is painstaking.
Not to worry, because Stoeger Books
recently released "Fishing Online: 1,000 Best Web Sites".
This is not your typical stale directory, instead it's jam packed
with information of useful websites around the world.
"The quality of information and
resources available to fishermen on the Internet is really impressive.",
said author Craig Buddo. "Just the fact that you can chat with
like-minded fishermen within hundreds of well-run forums is a really
amazing addition to the sport. But there are lots of dead, stale
sites out there as well. Search engines are very, very useful but
they don't measure quality"
Buddo's goal with this book is to point
readers straight to the best all around web sites and trip planning
resources for every type of fishing (bass, freshwater, saltwater,
and fly fishing) wherever they fish in the U.S., Canada, and around
the world.
Buddo, a Philadelphia angler who ventures
the world to experience all styles of fishing, spent two years researching
behind the keyboard. By the end of his search, he selected 1,000
top websites from 20,000 that he had visited.
As someone who frequently browses through
the world wide web, I did not expect this book to be any use for
me. My presumption was quickly changed after reading the first section
of the book. I had never visited or even heard of more than half
of the websites listed in this book.
What impresses me is the diversity
of Buddo's list. The book does not only focus on one specific discipline
of fishing. Instead, it recognizes all styles of fishing from every
corner of the world, as well as related websites that provide weather,
important contacts, boating and traveling information. All websites
are well sorted into different sections for easy reference. Each
website includes a small description and graphical preview. These
tools allow readers to decide whether the website is suitable for
them or not.
"Fishing Online: 1,000 Best Web
Sites" is not only entertaining, it is a comprehensive web
aid that can really cut down the amount of time anglers spend fishing
on the net.
