What
better way to demonstrate the joy of fishing by dangling a few feathers
in front of some curious audience? That was exactly what we did
recently at several events! Spring is normally the busiest time
for us. The sun emerges after a long winter, the kids become more
active, and at the same time those little salmon fry need to be
released into the rivers.
Fishing with Rod was invited to this year's Fingerling
Festival and Great Salmon Send-off once again to promote angling
among youth. We let the kids to try out fly tying themselves and
the response was very positive. Each kid was able to complete his
or her own creation of Wooly Bugger, which they took home to cherish
and possibly catch a big fish with.
During the festivals, visitors were given the chance
to release juvenile salmon, mainly coho and chum, into the nearby
streams. Stoney Creek and Noons Creek are just some of the last
urban streams in the Great Vancouver Regional District. With minimal
amount of funding, these local community groups are constantly working
hard to keep these streams alive.
Many thanks to Redl Sport and Jaymer's Tackle for
providing us the tying material. Without their generous support,
we would be unable to do these programs.
